Silver (amalgam) or plastic (composite, resin, white) fillings are often placed in teeth where decay is not that extensive. This means that once the decay is removed, there is still sufficient tooth structure to support a conventional filling instead of a crown.

  • Your child should have a soft diet for the remainder of the day.
  • Your child may describe the filling/s as feeling different. Please allow time for your child to get used to this feeling. Your child may have initial sensitivity to hot or cold foods and/or liquids. This will subside over a few weeks as the tooth acclimates to the new filling.
  • Flossing can resume the day after filling placement.
